Movie Research: Halloween (2018)

Image
What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?  The film has been selected to further implement the horror genre we are trying to get at. The film was overall a well-rounded movie. The movie uses a variety of camera movements like over-the-shoulder angles, close-ups, low angles, and lots of eye-level shots as well. Which portrays the specific point the movie and filmmakers are trying to get across to the audience. What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked? The movie Halloween is a classic horror movie and I thought it would be great for this blog. The film is known for its way of always keeping you in suspense with intense scenes usually involving Michael Myers. Michael Myers is an iconic horror villain and the film continues time and time again to display his seemingly relentless and unstoppable antagonist ways. The effective blending of the original Halloween (1978) film with the new 2018 modern filmmaking technique

Movie Research: A Quiet Place

What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? Some conventions that were similar to my final task and this movie are the camera angles used such as close-up shots or low angles. Another convention that I will use is a similar setting such as how the film decided to use an isolated setting to further enhance the feeling of suspense and danger. In the movie, there is also the use of natural lighting and ambient diegetic sounds that help with establishing the setting. What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked? I liked that the movie included a wide variety of camera angles. I like how the use of these various camera angles helped to set the mood of the scenes and highlight the emotions of the characters. I also enjoyed how the movie made use of different transitions to represent different things such as a change in time or locations. What conventions of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you and you are

The film was chosen because it was felt that this movie is a great selection to further our research on the genre, Horror. The film was overall great and it had many aspects that really made it very easy for anyone to fall in love with it. The film uses a variety of camera movements for example, close shot. Close shots were used in the film to portray specific details in the movie. It also gave the audience a feeling like they were in the movie experiencing it in real life. What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like? The movie was very interesting. With that being said it always kept us intrigued while watching and we couldn't wait to see what would happen in the film. The story that led up to the plot was very entertaining and was something that made us really enjoy the fil

Our Genre Decision

Image
For our opening sequence, it was decided to follow the horror genre. This was the chosen genre because this will allow the film to captivate the audience more through the use of suspense and other elements. Since the opening sequence will take place in the woods, it also allows us to keep the audience on their toes since anything could suddenly appear. Another thing that led us to choose this genre was the ideas that our group has already come up with which hugely connect to the horror genre. With the scene being detectives attempting to solve a case, the unpredictability of what might have occurred also aids in providing the audience with a sense of unease.

Genre Research: Drama

Common CAMS in the genre- High, low, and aerial angles. Over-the-shoulder, wide shots, close-up and Point-of-view shots. Also uses pan, dolly, and tilt camera movements. Genre Research: Horror

One Genre we thought of was Horror! Common camera angles used in horror videos/movies would be high-angles often used to make characters appear vulnerable, low-angle to make characters look more dominant (often the bad one), dutch angles are also used to create a sense of imbalance and close-ups are used to show fear on someone’s eyes or show a curvature smile. Common mis-en-scene in horror films are a dark setting in a rural location away from everyone, props often used are weapons such as knives, axes, and chainsaws that would create a painful death, Black, red, grey, and brown would all be colors considered for a horror film as they all signify danger and tragedy, most people (mainly victims) in horror films look like they are dressed casually but a lot of effort is put into their outfits to show hints of their role and personality in the movie, the weaker characters in the frame are the ones who are opposite the camera on the floor showing how positioning affects how the film is a

Genre Research: Mystery

Common camera angles in your genre (CAMS) camera angles, movement, shots: Long shots, Two shots, Closeups, Wide shots. Uses high, low, and aerial angles. Pans and tilts are also used. Common Mis-En-Scene in your genre (CLAMPS) Mis-En-scene: Dark hues and subdued lighting are used in mystery films to evoke mystery and suspense. This could also be done purposefully within the plot to keep certain details from the main character. Urban settings are frequently used in mystery films. This is done to make the audience feel comfortable, as this is a familiar environment and could make the audience feel as if it could be them in the circumstance. Characters in mysteries are frequently clothed in everyday attire. The goal is to make it seem nonfictional as possible. Common Editing in your genre: Shot/Reverse shot to show both sides of a conversation, flashbacks used when resolving a mystery, and black and white filters may be used in a flashback. Common sound in your genre: non-diegetic music

Our Pitch Blog

Image
Pitch A: A group of detectives are working on a case in the woods. Pitch B: Scientists go researching in the ocean and while researching the get caught in a unexpected storm.  Discuss Pitch A: We feel that this pitch is the one that is most favorable. This is because it would require less resources and be less expensive overall. We also have an interest in these type of films so we each have an idea of what is needed to be filmed. A main reason is that this choice would make it so that there is wide variety of locations to chose from. We also feel that this idea would be a more entertaining film because it would create suspense and mystery to the overall film. Discuss Pitch B: We feel that this pitch is the least favorable decision between the two. This is due to the resources we need are out of our budget and too difficult to obtain. Also the film will be too difficult to film on the ocean. Not only that but we believe that some of the effects needed in this film would be difficult

Hey blog, I'm back! My class was recently told about a new project to work on. For this project, my teacher also informed the class that people could work with each other once again. It was recommended to work with others since this project will include a large amount of work and research. Today in class I chose to decide who to do this project with. Fortunately, I already had an idea of who I could work with. I decided to ask my friend Carlos Guerra if he wanted to work together on the project. I asked him since I had already worked with him on a previous project and know that he is a hard worker. I also know that they are very reliable and meeting up with them to record or plan is very easy. Since our parents know each other, there will also be no issues with getting permission to hang out together to work on the project. After deciding to work together, I thought that the group would be just me and him like on a previous assignment. However, one of our fellow classmates Atticu

Hey blog, I'm back! My name is Carlos Murillo. I am a 16 year old student at Fort Lauderdale High School planning to graduate in 2025. I was born on December 14th, 2006 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to parents of Nicaraguan origin. I have no siblings and I'm currently living with my mother and a small loveable dog. Throughout my daily life, there are many hobbies and activities I like to do. My favorite activity I like to do whenever I get the chance is to listen to music. I'm especially a big fan of hip-hop, pop, and rap music. Without music I would find my life to be pretty bland. Video games are another hobby that adds more excitement to my life especially when playing with friends. Many find video games to be a waste of time, but video games have positively impacted my life throughout the years. One other activity I recently picked up over the summer is going to the gym. I find the gym to be a good source of stress relief and a great way to improve my overall health. Unl
